Video advertising grew 49.1% in Nigeria last year. Here's what to do with your budget.
Digital is now a third of all advertising spend in Nigeria, and video is the fastest-growing part of it. A practical guide for growth-stage businesses deciding where the money goes.
In 2025, digital advertising accounted for roughly 34.2% of total advertising expenditure in Nigeria, around $340 million, growing 8.5% year on year. Inside that number, one segment did something remarkable: video advertising grew 49.1%, making it the fastest-growing advertising format in the country.

That is not a statistic about big brands. It is a statistic about where your customers' attention has gone. Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn video: this is where Nigerians educate themselves, compare options and decide who to trust. For a growth-stage business, it changes how a marketing budget should be built.
1. Fund the content system before the ads
The most common mistake we see is paid media spent on weak creative. Ads amplify what you give them. Before you buy reach, build a content system: a positioning, content pillars, and a production calendar that gives you a consistent bank of video to run. Then the ads have something worth amplifying.
2. Shoot in volume, not one-offs
A single expensive commercial is a poor way to spend a video budget in a feed-driven market. Structured shoot days that capture a month or a quarter of content cost less per asset, keep the standard consistent, and give paid campaigns fresh creative to test.
3. Plan paid media around the calendar
Launches, seasons and lead-generation pushes should be planned alongside production, so campaign creative exists before the campaign does. Paid and organic should work from the same strategy, with one team accountable for both.
4. Measure something you can act on
- Which formats and messages earn attention and which do not.
- What paid reach costs, and what it returns in leads or sales.
- Whether perception is moving: are customers arriving already trusting you?
Monthly performance reviews are part of every retainer we run, because the point of a budget is to learn faster than your competitors. Economic uncertainty has made every naira of marketing spend accountable. That is not a threat to good marketing. It is an argument for it.
Video is the language of the market now. The businesses that win will be the ones that speak it fluently, consistently and on purpose.
